This story starts off with Nephi narrating his father, Lehi, experience with God. The things Lehi sees and experience is dense, he saw the destruction of his beloved city and it is because of their rejection to follow the commandments, laws of God, and willingness to continue in wickedness. However, as he tries to warn the people and have them return to doing good they reject him,
"And when the Jews heard these things they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out, and stoned, and slain." (v.20)
How burdened and saddened Lehi must've felt in trying to do good, but in response given death threats! His intentions were so pure, and the people KNEW there were doing wickedness. I think Lehi felt stressed, overwhelmed, and discouraged. I think he would've really wanted for God to show his hand in that moment to defend the prophets, GIVEN A SIGN. Maybe just a little earthquake, or a fullness of the spirit insomuch that if someone layed a hand upon him they would shrivel up.
